The Holidays won’t be the same without hot chocolate filled nights by the Christmas tree. There are many different variations of hot chocolate out there so you are bound to find something you fall in love with. I mean, my Easy Spiced Hot Chocolate is going to knock your socks off so no need to look any further.
Now you know when I’m putting a recipe together, I like to make sure I can make as many people happy as possibly. So, for this recipe, we are using a combination of dark and milk chocolate. I think using a combination makes the perfect balance of rich with a touch of sweetness.

I have never been a huge fan of powder hot chocolate mixes. They just don’t do the trick for me. Not to mention they are most likely full of crap we can’t spell anyway. Hot chocolate should always be made with real chocolate. And if you can’t get your hands on great chocolate chunks, go with real cocoa powder and add your own ingredients to it (i.e milk, spices…etc).
Spiced Hot Chocolate

This spiced hot chocolate is so easy to make, yet it is so decadent and delicious. It is the perfect way to bring the family together during the holidays or cold winter months. It’s also very customizable. Don’t like dark chocolate, use only milk chocolate and vice-versa.
One thing that is very important with this recipe is to make sure you don’t bring the milk to a boil at all. Especially if you are using dairy-free milk. You want to steam the milk not boil it. Bringing the milk to a boil too fast will only curdle the milk. So it’s important to make sure you heat the milk slowly over medium-low heat.

Ingredients
-
1
cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
-
1
cup coconut milk
-
2
tbsp sugar (you can use brown sugar, coconut sugar, or a keto alternative)
-
1/8
tsp. ground cinnamon
-
1/4
tsp. ground nutmeg
-
2
ounces good milk chocolate
-
2
ounces 85% cacao dark chocolate
-
A pinch of sea salt
-
marshmallows to serve
Instructions
- To begin, pour the almond milk, coconut milk and coconut sugar into a saucepan and heat the milk over medium-low heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Now, whisk in the cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate and sea salt. Continue to whisk the mixture until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Turn the heat down to low in order to keep the hot chocolate mixture heated through while you roast the marshmallows.
- Now, transfer the marshmallows to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and put it under the broiler for 2-3 minutes until the marshmallows are brown (make sure you keep an eye on the marshmallows, they will brown very quickly). You can also roast your marshmallows over your gas stove.
- Pour the hot chocolate into the mugs and finish with the roasted marshmallows. Enjoy!
