Easy 5-Ingredient Guacamole

If there is one staple I would recommend for your kitchen, it would be a good guacamole recipe. Nothing fancy, just something simple and delicious. When it comes to guacamole, simple is better in my opinion. Now, I know there are tons of recipes out there for guacamole, and I have been seeing a lot of “loaded guacamole” recipes lately. But, I like mine simple, clean and to the point. The avocados are the star in my 5-ingredient guacamole.

Because I adore everything avocado, this recipe has always been a staple in my kitchen. There is nothing better than making homemade guacamole. I mean, who doesn’t get sick of walking into a Chipotle and being told “Guac is extra”. So, why not make my guacamole at home and enjoy it whenever I want. Not only will you not have to pay for extra guac, but it is incredibly versatile and in many cases a kitchen necessity. Serve over salads, tacos, nachos or simple use it as a dip.

Now of course, with every recipe I share with you, I want you to experiment! Yes, I am not a fan of the many variations of guacamole. I like mine simple and to the point. But, here are a few different ways I like to enjoy my avocados.

  1. If you don’t have all the ingredients to make this recipe, try mixing the mashed avocado with about 1/4 of a cup of salsa for a quick guacamole. The salsa will essentially provide all the necessary ingredients you need for guacamole.
  2. Another quick way to make guacamole or an avocado dip is to mash some avocados and add mayo and fresh herbs like cilantro to the mixture. This is a quick and versatile way to enjoy guacamole. I love dipping some homemade sweet potato fries into this mixure.
  3. Of course, the simpliest way to enjoy guacamole is to simple mix mashed avocados with salt and pepper and call it a day. It is just as delicious and doesn’t require any technical know how.

Ingredients

  • 2
    garlic cloves
  • 2
    avocados
  • 1
    shallot (finely minced)
  • 2
    tbsp. finely chopped cilantro leaves
  • 2
    tsp. freshly squeezed lime juice
  • salt and pepper (To taste)

Instructions

  1. To begin, use a mortar and pestle to mash the garlic until it is finely milled (you can also use a garlic press). Now, add the garlic to a mixing bowl. Halve the avocados, and use a spoon to remove the flesh from the shell and add it to the mixing bowl with the garlic. Now, use a fork to gently mash the avocado and combine it with the garlic (do not overdo it you want your guac to be a bit chunky).
  2. Now, add the shallot, cilantro and lime juice to the avocado mixture and fold to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve with a salads, tacos, vegetables or chips.

Notes

  • To store in the fridge for a few hours or overnight, transfer to a bowl and place plastic wrap on the surface of the guacamole to prevent air from reaching it. Then cover with an air tight lid.
